Sydney psyche-dealers – The Tambourine Girls – are proud to offer a first glance at their brand new video for their near-eponymous recent single ‘The Tambourine Girl’. This is the second single release and the first visual element assigned to their forthcoming debut album, a timely performance video as they also announce a three date East Coast Tour.
The video pulls no punches, boasting the band well in their element and captured by director James Kates, a semi-professional body boarder, drummer for The Pinheads, percussionist in Shining Bird and maker of various music videos and surf clips.
“The location is a little clearing in The Royal National Park where we like to have these sunset parties,” says frontman Simon Relf. “It’s always felt magical to me – full of rabbitholes and rock and roll – but I never thought about making a film clip there until the day of the shoot.”
Recorded with producer Tim Whitten (Powderfinger, The Go-Betweens, Hoodoo Gurus), the song itself is captivating, evocative in its execution encompassing the mythology of the muse, a subject woven through carefully as well as the very fabric of pop culture as a whole. Twiggy. Marilyn Munroe. Christie Brinkley. And The Tambourine Girl. “She dances and I follow and when I wake up I am empty, so I fill myself up and do it all again.”
For the unitiated, The Tambourine Girls is a four-piece created by Relf, main man, songwriter and ex-Deep Sea Arcade member. Also, joining him is Nick Weaver and Carlos Adura (also from Deep Sea Arcade) and Pat Harris. Their first single from their upcoming debut album was ‘Police’ and has garnered in access of 300,000 Spotify plays.
First emerging in 2014 with EP The End of Time, the band have toured with the likes of Dustin Tebbutt, The Preatures, Tigertown, Holy Holy, Davey Lane & Megan Washington.
