Atmosphere & Brother Ali are gracing us with their rhymes early next year and we can’t wait! With a career spanning over two decades, Atmosphere have sure had a lot to say. We sat down with Slug to chat about Prince, The Hilltop Hoods and bird watching.
Hey Slug,
What are you up to right now?
About to go to sleep. I need a nap. Long day
So we are pretty darn pumped to see you when you come back. First time in about four years right? Is there anything you remember about your last visit to Australia that you’re hoping to tap into again?
Two memorable things happened last time I was there. I drove an Australian car around an Australian city. Was more difficult than you think! I’d be down to chase that chicken again. The other thing was MCA from the Beastie Boys passed away while I was touring there. It broke my heart. I never met him, but he was a huge influence on me.
You’ve had an incredible career spanning two decades and you’ve covered so much. What’s still left unsaid for you and Ant?
There is always more to say. Especially when you are addicted to the sound of your own screams.
We have some pretty rad emcees here in Australia if I say so myself. Are you across the Australian Hip-Hop scene? If so, what are you digging?
The Hilltop Hoods are the obvious answer. Also a fan of Horrorshow.
You’ve been touring in the US with Brother Ali who is also heading out to Australia with you *yasssss* – do you guys like to hang out while on tour and if so, what do you get up to when you’re not performing?
Bird watching. bringing my binoculars.
As you’re both from Minnesota did you ever get to meet Prince?
Not formally. but we had crossed paths.
Who else should we check out from Minessota that’s super hot right now?
Too many to name. So I will stick with the homies; Dem Atlas, Prof, J Plaza, The Lioness, B Dot Croc, Mike The Martyr.
(Here’s a handy little playlist we made so you can check them all out!)
That’s it from us. Thanks heaps for taking the time to answer these.
See you in a few months down under.
From Viverama.
