14 Songs From the Big White RV

By Ben Preece June 30, 2016

The life and sanity of any touring band isn’t complete without a good playlist for the tour van, but this becomes essential if you have the hectic schedule of Sydney’s Big White.

The band touched back down in Sydney last month after completing over 40 shows across the northern hemisphere. This included performances at SXSW, Treefort Festival (Methyl Ethel / Thee Oh Sees), and 11 dates back to back in New York City. To help fund the tour the band threw a house party in Sydney which had over 400 people turn up.

The band took a big risk with this tour – they had very little cash and couldn’t afford accommodation so for 4 weeks of the trip they relied on making friends quickly to find places to stay each night before scraping just enough cash together to hire an RV.

Whilst overseas the band also found time to bunker down in various recordings studios in Los Angeles, New York and Berlin to start working on their next release. But for now, they’re still on the promotion trail of their debut album – Teenage Dreams (out now via Caroline) – and have a bunch of dates (starting tonight) to get across.  Here’s a list of 14 songs that were on high rotation in the RV that the lads whipped up for us.

Paul McCartney & Wings – ‘Band On The Run’

Lee Hazlewood – Six Feet Of Chain

Leonard Cohen – First We Take Manhattan

Thin Lizzy – Whiskey In The Jar

Tom Petty & The Heartbreakers – American Girl

Donnie & Joe Emerson – Don’t Fight

Spike Vincent – I Like You

Big Star – September Girls

The Go-Betweens – Cattle and Cane

Chris Bell – I Am The Cosmos

Bruce Springsteen – Johnny 99

Hank Williams Jr – Your Cheatin’ Heart

The Triffids – Wide Open Road
