Blame Ringo “Can’t Grovember” tour to support Prostate Cancer awareness

October 19th, 2010 | By

The boys from Blame Ringo can’t grow moustaches. It’s pathetic. When Prostate Cancer awareness fundraising event ‘Movember’ rolls around every year, the band becomes despondent because their masculinity is laid bare and they feel inadequate – they can’t contribute to all of the fantastic fundraising that goes on for men’s health.

Enough is enough!  This year the boys were keen to take it upon themselves and contribute to raising awareness for the important issues despite their embarrassing lack of upper-lip hair.

And so the “Can’t Grovember” tour was born.

It’s no secret that Blame Ringo likes to do things a little differently when they go out on the road – last time it was a pretty unconventional tour (a tour playing dates in Laundromats across the country).  This time round Blame Ringo will be donating 100% of profits from sales of their new album Too Strange For Avery (released October 1 via MGM) sold on their east coast tour to the Prostate Cancer Association of Australia.

The east coast tour kicks off in hometown Brisbane on Sunday November 7 and sees Blame Ringo playing at Brisbane’s iconic venue The Powerhouse with a free LiveSpark set. The following dates include jaunts into Port Macquarie, Sydney, Armidale and Melbourne before returning to Brisbane to finish the tour on Friday November 26 at The Troubadour.

From the truly authentic ‘British Invasion’ sound of ‘The Girl Who Likes Me’, to the sage words of an aging rocker in ‘Nobody’s Hero’, the energetic rock ‘n’ roll that is ‘In A Hurricane’, and back to the wonderfully lush, waltzing melodies of ‘One Way Driver’, Too Strange For Avery is a work of uniquely diverse pop, the type of which is seldom practiced on Australia’s indie scene.
Blame Ringo’s sophomore release Too Strange for Avery is available now and is distributed through MGM.  The album is in stores and available digitally via iTunes from October 1.

Ball Park Music unleash debut video

February 7th, 2010 | By ben

After last night’s rather impressive sell-out show at the Troubadour (Brisbane), it would seem Brisbane’s fresh-faced Ball Park Music are on somewhat of a roll. The show was in aid of the launch of the single ‘Sea Strangers (I Don’t Really Know You)’ and its accompanying video. The song has already managed iTunes Single of the Week and is a taste of a forthcoming EP to be released sometime very soon.

The video was created by producer Glenn Bernauer and director Alex Barnes from Brisbane ‘s Silver Screen Pictures – http://www.silverscreenpictures.com.au/

Carrolling For Bread & Circuses

After waiting patiently to tell all and sundry about the worldly brand of folk, crafted finely and directly from Timothy Carroll‘s soul, it was finally time for the Mucho crew to service his debut album For Bread and Circuses to radio and press this week. The musical beans will be well and truly spilt when Carroll officially launches For Bread & Circuses at the Troubadour on Sunday 19th July, with friends McKisko and Kate Jacobson.

The evening will showcase Carroll’s compositions which swing naturally across folk, soul, country and gospel, painting tales of good times and heartbreak alongside a band of talented old world musicians. For Bread and Circuses will be available for sale on the night.

In other exciting news, Carroll will also also join Paul Dempsey in solo mode for a show later this month, before heading down to Sydney to join Megan Washington at the Sydney Opera House Studio on July 10.

Angie Hart (Frente) & Dave McCormack (Custard) Live and Intimate On The East Coast

June 22nd, 2008 | By ben

Angie Hart and David McCormack will be treading the boards this July with a series of intimate, inimitable shows performing works old and new from their extensive collective musical repertoires.

As household name with Frente, through to Splendid, Holidays on Ice and now as solo performer, Angie Hart possesses one of Australia’s best-loved voices. Her long-awaited debut long-player ‘Grounded Bird’ was many a critic’s short list choice for the last 12 months. Most recently at the invitation of Victoria’s Traffic Accident Commission, Angie lent her voice to a haunting cover of The Cure’s ‘Pictures of You’ for their biggest ever TV campaign, highlighting speed awareness.

Equally, David McCormack is a name synonymous with great Australian singing and songwriting. Through a decade with Custard and then onto the Titanics and The Polaroids, his catalogue remains past and present soulful, melodic and poptastic.

In celebration of these July dates Dave releases ‘Cassingle’, a clutch of songs (it says here) “stripped them down to their underwear and supplied them to you, dear listener, on this convenient digital disc”. ‘Cassingle’ is a forerunner to his new album and will be available for sale at these shows.

Having toured extensively with full band, Angie performs songs on this intimate run in duo mode. Like Angie, David will be performing in pared down back to bare bones basics mode.

Who knows? If the mood takes them and the stars align, they may even perform a couple of tracks together, but you’ll have to be there to catch that magic.

Gladstone & Lochaber hit the Troubadour with 26 and The Faze

June 1st, 2008 | By ben

Gladstone & Lochaber

You know when you go shopping for a new jacket and you can’t find anything you like? But then, out of the corner of your eye, you notice a pair of jeans that almost seems to call your name. You try them and the jean feels so good, so right and so comfortable that it’s almost like you’ve owned them for years, like it’s your “old faithful”. You feel sexy and all you want to do is tap your foot, swing your hips and dance like there’s nobody watching. This is how music is and this is the feeling local lads Gladstone & Lochaber aim for every single time they hit the stage. Their sound is rooted in rock but they add an electro-infused element that makes their slightly psychedelic pop melodies irresistible.

Gladstone & Lochaber play this Friday, June 6 at the Troubadour with 26 and The Faze
