The Cairos shine Friday night lights on November East Coast Tour

October 12th, 2010 | By

For four consecutive Fridays in what should be an exciting Australian East Coast November, The Cairos are heading south from their hometown of Brisbane, co-headlining shows with equally exciting young band, The Young Heretics.

In a run of shows which will bring the Friday night lights up in each destination, The Cairos will be showcasing new tracks from their forthcoming release The Cairos’ Summer Catalog. The release follows on from their recent single ‘Listening Party’ and will be available for the first time on the tour as a limited edition physical release.

The Cairos’ engaging shoegaze-distortion pop-rock is a sound that has helped them grab support slots with acts like Julian Casablancas of The Strokes and garner fantastic live and record reviews.

It has nary been more than two years since that time and The Cairos have filled the Zoo for the launch of their debut EP “Lost at Sea”, supported Powderfinger at the Q150 Celebrations and on their Farewell Tour at the Brisbane Riverstage, scored a slot at Parklife and have played with iconic Australian acts such as You Am I, The Temper Trap, Bertie Blackman, Wolf and Cub, Mercy Arms, Custard, The Middle East and Yves Klein Blue.

Aiding the recording process for the single and the sophomore EP was ARIA-award winning producer, Scott Horscroft (Silverchair, The Presets, The Drones) at Big Jesus Burger Studios in Sydney, who took the helm for the recording and brought the best out of the four Brissy boys.

In an exciting twist on a tour announcement, the tour will be a co-headlined one – heading out on the road for the November Friday night shows is Melbourne indie-pop band, The Young Heretics, the new project for ex-The Getaway Plan frontman Matthew Wright and collaborator, Kitty Hart.

BALL PARK MUSIC ANNOUNCE NEW EP: CONQUER THE TOWN, EASY AS CAKE

April 23rd, 2010 | By tyler

As the freshest faces on the Brisbane rock block, Ball Park Music have quickly developed a reputation as one of the most exciting bands around. Just ask the likes of fellow pop-purveyors Philadelphia Grand Jury, Deep Sea Arcade, Boy & Bear, Hungry Kids of Hungary and The Boat People and they will tell you that the six-headed pop juggernaut are an onstage force to be reckoned with.

And now the band are about to put another EP release where their rock-chops are with the approaching launch of Conquer The Town, Easy As Cake – a five-track servicing of pop deliciousness that covers the musical spectrum. Bookended by the opening radio-bliss, naughtiness of ‘iFly’ (you’ll see) and the simply sublime strum of ‘Western Whirl’, the EP also features the clap-tastic ‘The Ghost I Saw When I Was Dreaming’, recent single ‘Sea Strangers (I Don’t Even Know You)’ and the four minute masterpiece ‘Hello Anais’, with a climax and brass solo bound to catch Tarantino attention.

Having produced their debut EP Rolling On The Floor, Laughing Ourselves To Sleep themselves, the band opted to work with Tristan Hoogland at Brisbane’s Psi-Fi Studios this time around, cutting over 15 songs. Partnering three of the resulting songs with brand new productions from frontman Sam Cromack, the EP shows the sextet’s impressive diversity, songwriting prowess and clever musicality.

Still a band in their infancy, Ball Park Music have quickly formed a strong fanbase around Brisbane, finally taking their crowd-pleasing affair to Sydney recently, opening for Hungry Kids of Hungary’s sell-out show at Oxford Arts Factory with Boy & Bear and Ernest Ellis. Previous single ‘Sea Strangers (I Don’t Really Know You)’ featured a voodoo-fest that quickly became a Home & Hosed blog feature as well as snaring Indie Of The Week title with Rage.

See what all the fuss is about when Ball Park Music launch Conquer The Town, Easy As Cake at the Zoo Friday May 21 with the able assistance of Blame Ringo and Tin Can Radio.

CHARLIE MAYFAIR LAUNCH DEBUT EP APRIL 30 @ THE ZOO, BRISBANE

April 7th, 2010 | By

www.myspace.com/charliemayfair

In January 2010, a band was born: full of energy, bursting with love and spilling over with songs to sing and stories to tell. This band is Charlie Mayfair.

The first part of this year has seen the band racing around their hometown writing songs, making friends, and letting people experience their unique style of folk-fired pop. They hollered their gigs from the rooftops and Brisbane heeded their call.

And so their three-part-harmonised hollering led them to play at many lovely venues like The Powerhouse, The Troubadour, The Zoo and The Sound Lounge, sharing the stage with the talented likes of Montpelier, Tin Can Radio, Skipping Girl Vinegar, Loren and Iceland’s Svavar Knutur, amongst others.

And now with hearts on their sleeves, the quintet have made an offering that they can share with the world -  recorded in Brisbane’s 180 studio with producer Matt Whitehouse the result is their debut EP Watch My Hands.

Their first single – ‘Run’ – released into the wild in February, has been gaining some fine feedback from listeners, especially after being featured on triple j Unearthed, where presenter Zan Rowe called it “a really sweet folk-pop song; lovely harmonies going on.”

With the finishing touches lovingly placed, Charlie Mayfair will launch Watch My Hands at The Zoo in Brisbane on Friday, April 30. Special guests for the evening will be geetar-sliding roots rumblers The Deckchairs and 60s-rockin’ band-on-a-mission Blame Ringo.

The following night Sunny-Coast punters will be treated to an equally special performance at Club Envy where violin-shredding folk-and-rollers The Golden Virtues and the funked-up sounds of The Floating Bridges will join the band for the ride.
