BALL PARK MUSIC HEADLINE THE TROUBADOUR THURS SEPT 2

August 26th, 2010 | By tyler

With the runaway success of the single ‘iFly’ (you know the one: “I f**king love you, I think you’re pretty”), Ball Park Music’s profile is certainly going from strength to strength. The six-headed pop collective has been pricking ears with their lively blend of ingenuis indie-pop/rock and turning heads with their raucous live show, one where literally anything can happen.

The band recently released their second EP Conquer the Town, Easy as Cake to an unsuspecting Australian audience and the response has been overwhelming – ‘iFly’ proved to be ideal triple j material as it lept right to high rotation and has repeatedly featured as the most popular on Super Request. Another of the EP’s finest moments – ‘Western Whirl’ – was nominated for both The Courier Mail People’s Choice Song of the Year and Best Alternative at this year’s Q Song Awards – it didn’t win but a French milk company loved it enough to feature it in their latest campaigns.

All in all, this sets the band up nicely for the remaining months of 2010 where they will be undertaking their very first national tour, a brand new single release – but more about that later. Thursday, September 2 will be their last headline appearance in Brisbane, possibly for the year and they’re celebrating by re-releasing their debut EP Rolling On The Floor, Laughing Ourselves To Sleep in fancy new packaging (you might remember their remaining stock being sizzled in a house fire last year) and launching a new range of Ball Park Music merchandise. Joining them on the night will be the indie-rock goodness of the Gold Coast’s Oceanics and the local emerging star on the rise Emma-Louise.

DRAWN FROM BEES ANNOUNCE 'RUN AWAY TOUR' & SINGLE

March 4th, 2010 | By tyler

Prolific art-rockers Drawn from Bees have bagged the last instalment of their self-imposed schedule to write, record and release a body of work every six months for two years. Even though an EP would have easily completed the project, the ambitious foursome have just laid down the finishing touches to a whole album this time around, titled Fear Not The Footsteps Of The Departed.

‘Run Away’, the lead single from the album to be released in the coming months, is a foot-stomping romp, incorporating the band’s fervently complimented four-part harmonies alongside thick acoustic strumming and a subtle keys melody. The single shows a playful side to Drawn from Bees and provides a lovely glimpse into the hearts of their cultured, well-dressed personas.

Taking their own advice, the Brisbane lads will leave home to show off their new single during March and April to embark on the Run Away Tour. Special guests for each date will be announced soon.

PARTY TIME, EXCELLENT!

July 31st, 2009 | By

Ladies and gentlemen… the time has come to cast aside the woolly socks and cosy nights in front of the tube to get your indie cool on once again and wig out alongside Brisbane’s finest bands at the Troubadour on Saturday August 8th.

www.myspace.com/hungrykidsofhungary

The bountiful line-up boasts a co-headline of The Boat People, fresh from their third USA tour in nine months, and the Hungry Kids of Hungary who are slotting in a quickie hometown show with their buds amongst national dates with Bertie Blackman and Little Birdy.  While the Boaties are kicking goal after goal in the States with their pop-perfect songwriting prowess, the Hungries have been winning hearts back home with their charming grins, playful demeanour and a cannon of indie-pop gems.

The kooky kids from Ball Park Music will kick off proceedings with their unique pop recipe full of sliding trombones and heart-breaking folk, jangly guitars and honky-tonk piano, sad songs about Translink and happy songs about rotten storms.

Dan Parsons then showcases his new band on only their third ever outing. You wouldn’t know it though – the four-piece are old buddies who together effortlessly lead the Parsons project into rockin’ new territory.

And stick around for the after-party featuring the triumphant return of Brisbane’s self-coined ‘freeguardist’ revolving outfit Lost of Love.  Featuring Edward Guglielmino, James O’Brien (The Boat People), Jackie Marshall, Lucas Arundell, Mick Elliot and Sam Schlencker (Skinny Jean), LoL’s performances of exclusively improvised material are heralded simultaneously as something that could be the best or worst thing you’ll see this year.
