EDWARD GUGLIELMINO HEADS UP 2011’S FINAL NANNA NIGHT

November 28th, 2011 | By

Mucho-Bravado’s Brisbane Nanna Nights have been going strong for 18 months and will wind down 2011 with a very special performance from avant-pop specialist Edward Guglielmino. The night is dubbed “Edward Guglielmino & Friends” and already, the singer has confirmed that Skinny Jean’s Shem Allen and The Boat People’s James O’Brien have both been locked in to play.

PARTY TIME, EXCELLENT!

July 31st, 2009 | By

Ladies and gentlemen… the time has come to cast aside the woolly socks and cosy nights in front of the tube to get your indie cool on once again and wig out alongside Brisbane’s finest bands at the Troubadour on Saturday August 8th.

The bountiful line-up boasts a co-headline of The Boat People, fresh from their third USA tour in nine months, and the Hungry Kids of Hungary who are slotting in a quickie hometown show with their buds amongst national dates with Bertie Blackman and Little Birdy.  While the Boaties are kicking goal after goal in the States with their pop-perfect songwriting prowess, the Hungries have been winning hearts back home with their charming grins, playful demeanour and a cannon of indie-pop gems.

The kooky kids from Ball Park Music will kick off proceedings with their unique pop recipe full of sliding trombones and heart-breaking folk, jangly guitars and honky-tonk piano, sad songs about Translink and happy songs about rotten storms.

Dan Parsons then showcases his new band on only their third ever outing. You wouldn’t know it though – the four-piece are old buddies who together effortlessly lead the Parsons project into rockin’ new territory.

And stick around for the after-party featuring the triumphant return of Brisbane’s self-coined ‘freeguardist’ revolving outfit Lost of Love.  Featuring Edward Guglielmino, James O’Brien (The Boat People), Jackie Marshall, Lucas Arundell, Mick Elliot and Sam Schlencker (Skinny Jean), LoL’s performances of exclusively improvised material are heralded simultaneously as something that could be the best or worst thing you’ll see this year.

Hot Liquid Sex celebrate EP release with successful launch

June 1st, 2008 | By ben

Hot Liquid Sex - Unexpect the Expected

Hot Liquid Sex would like to thank each and every single person who contributed to last weekend’s success of the Unexpect the Expected EP launch at the Zoo. The girls played to a solid crowd of close to 350 and were joined on-stage by Emma Dean (with a night highlight of The Darkness’ ‘I Believe In A Thing Called Love’), Lucas Arundall and Jimi Beavis. Also playing on the night was the sublime Princess One Point Five from Melbourne as well as great rock sets from Skinny Jean and The Art Of The State.

The media and press support was incredible with interviews played all over. Below are some highlights:

As for the EP, well it will hit media, radio and online retail really soon. It will be closely followed by a video or two and will also give the band their first opportunity to play in Sydney and Melbourne as they will undertake their very first interstate tour later in the year. But for now, be content with a forthcoming show at Ric’s, oh, and a mighty fine shiny piece of plastic with six brand spanking new tracks of pop/rock goodness.

Hot Liquid Sex

In less than three weeks, Brisbane trio Hot Liquid Sex will finally unleash a debut offering to the world in the form of an EP called Unexpect The Expected.

Recorded through March with Brisbane producer Ben Stewart, the EP features six brand new tracks that see the all-girl trio cleverly criss-cross their way through the endless levels of the pop gauntlet.

From straight-up pop (‘Trousersnake’) and James Brown-infused funk/rock (‘You Ain’t Mine’) to heart-wrenching melodies (‘Emergency!), jump-around fun (‘Fortune Cookie’) and even a folk-tinged ode to IKEA (‘My Vanity’), the girls have really captured the full extent of their songwriting and performance capabilities.

The launch party will be a force to be reckoned with. With a stellar line-up including the sublime Princess One Point Five from Melbourne as well as two of the best up and coming locals – The Art Of The State and Skinny Jean plus numerous guests and surprises throughout the night.
