The Boat People
want you to find the antidote to musical boredom – dance it away. They are providing this salve to their fans via radio in the form of a brand, spanking new double A-side and remix package.
Both ‘Dance to My Pain’ and ‘Antidote’ and their upbeat, dancey vibes made them the perfect candidate for remixing and dance party radio playlists. To celebrate these tracks hitting radiowaves around Australia, The Boat People are hitting venues throughout Victoria (Melbourne), New South Wales (Sydney and Newcastle) and Queensland (Brisbane).
This special package for radio features the 1, 2 hit of anti-boredom of The Boat People’s latest Dear Darkly album cuts ‘Antidote’ and ‘Dance to My Pain.’
New South Wales big-beat maestros No Device and Victorians Ming the Merciless provide the remixes for the package. No Device brings the beats for remixes of both tracks – ‘Antidote’ and ‘Dance to Pain’ and Ming the Merciless bust out their ‘Antidote Pantydote’ remix.
The two tracks (a radio edit of ‘Dance to My Pain’ and ‘Antidote’) are engineered and produced by James O’Brien, who penned The Boat People’s Triple J-spun single, ‘Damn Defensive’.
The Boat People are without doubt one of Queensland and Australia’s hardest-working and talented bands. They’ve played The Great Escape UK, CMJ Music Marathon NYC, toured the UK twice and the US three times including shows at SXSW, The Viper Room, Spaceland, Pianos and a live set on Morning Becomes Eclectic KCRW as well as rotation on over 20 radio stations across the US and a bunch of TV syncs to boot. They’ve also nabbed slots at some of Australia’s biggest festivals and supported David Byrne, The Shins and Midlake.
Those three acts are a good place to start to describe the band’s sound – expansive, unconventional pop with a blush of wry optimism and romance.
The double A-side remix package will be made available to radio for plays on 12th October.
THE BOAT PEOPLE – ANTIDOTE and DANCE TO MY PAIN REMIX PACKAGE TOUR
Ladies and gentlemen… the time has come to cast aside the woolly socks and cosy nights in front of the tube to get your indie cool on once again and wig out alongside Brisbane’s finest bands at the Troubadour on Saturday August 8th.

The bountiful line-up boasts a co-headline of The Boat People, fresh from their third USA tour in nine months, and the Hungry Kids of Hungary who are slotting in a quickie hometown show with their buds amongst national dates with Bertie Blackman and Little Birdy. While the Boaties are kicking goal after goal in the States with their pop-perfect songwriting prowess, the Hungries have been winning hearts back home with their charming grins, playful demeanour and a cannon of indie-pop gems.
The kooky kids from Ball Park Music will kick off proceedings with their unique pop recipe full of sliding trombones and heart-breaking folk, jangly guitars and honky-tonk piano, sad songs about Translink and happy songs about rotten storms.
Dan Parsons then showcases his new band on only their third ever outing. You wouldn’t know it though – the four-piece are old buddies who together effortlessly lead the Parsons project into rockin’ new territory.
And stick around for the after-party featuring the triumphant return of Brisbane’s self-coined ‘freeguardist’ revolving outfit Lost of Love. Featuring Edward Guglielmino, James O’Brien (The Boat People), Jackie Marshall, Lucas Arundell, Mick Elliot and Sam Schlencker (Skinny Jean), LoL’s performances of exclusively improvised material are heralded simultaneously as something that could be the best or worst thing you’ll see this year.

Hitting the ground running from their third USA tour in nine months, indie pop maestros The Boat People are back on home soil with a lot to grin about. In the US, they are a tastemakers favourite with the influential Nic Harcourt declaring them his favourite Aussie band via his Twitter. On top of incredibly healthy, widespread radio play, the band was given the opportunity to play packed shows and festivals far and wide.
But now its back to business here at home as the band returns to play some shows around the country in support of their double a-sided single release of Hours n Hours/Born In The 80s. This release will be the third and final single release from their much-acclaimed second record Chandeliers and shows two very different sides to the Boaties songwriting spectrum.
Hours n Hours is an introspective and captivating tale from the creative story telling mind of keys player Robin Waters while Born In The 80s is simply a slice of upbeat party-pop bliss, a live favourite from bassist James OBrien.
These will be their lasts shows before heading back into the studio to start recording of their third album.
