Ball Park Music nominated for two J Awards and release the video for ‘Literally Baby’

November 30th, 2011 | By

As 2011 draws to a close, there is no denying it’s been an eventful one for Brisbane’s Ball Park Music.  After releasing their debut album ‘Happiness and Surrounding Suburbs’ to critical acclaim, the band debuted their album at No.36 on the ARIA album chart, completed a sold out national tour, annihilated Jay Z and Kayne West for Channel [V]’s Ripe Clip Of The Week with their video for ‘It’s Nice To Be Alive’ and now the six piece have been nominated for two J Awards for ‘Album of the Year’ and ‘Unearthed Artist of the Year’. Dan Parsons – Down the 'Rabbit Hole' for single + Run, Rabbit, Fly… Tour

November 4th, 2010 | By

Dan Parsons is ready to take his fans to Wonderland via his new upbeat single ‘Rabbit Hole‘. Taken from his debut album Firestarter, which was described as Dan’s ‘boy meets world’ journey, ‘Rabbit Hole’ sees him beating out a fresh, bright and optimistic worldview.

An optimistic it should be, too – 2010 has been a year of positive moves forward for the Brisbane indie troubadour.  A critically acclaimed album release, a Q-Song win for his song ‘Firestarter’ and a publishing deal signing to Mushroom records are all under his belt for this year.

Additionally, previous single ‘Firestarter’ has so far garnered a thirteen-week long rotation spot on triple j and much industry praise – “I like the spacious, Fleet Foxes-esque production, and the melodies – both on guitar and vocally – are fantastic.” (Dom Alessio, triple j) and “It’s effortless but energetic, up-beat but melancholic. Is this guy the king of contradictory pop?” (Dan Buhagiar, triple j).

Dan’s album Firestarter is a snapshot of someone who after spending his high school years emulating his seventies heroes on a reel to reel eight track, leaves his bedroom and begins tumbling through one blinding, visceral experience after another – from one night stands that end up something more, to brushes with the law and narrow escapes from mundane cliques. It’s the sound of someone we all know. Someone who, at least for the moment, is ready for anything but somehow comes out unscathed no matter what.

Reviews compare him to fellow class of 2010 wunderkind Jonathan Boulet and Lou Barlow (with whom he shared a stage with this year).

Dan is taking some friends down the rabbit hole with him for the co-headline Run, Rabbit Fly… Tour – joining him will be Victorian artists Seagull and New South Welshmen Dead Letter Chorus, each taking hometown headline duties on their east coast tour collaboration.

JTV Spotlight onHungry Kids of Hungary

May 26th, 2009 | By ben

Well the International Relations Tour is truly done and dusted but JTV having been showing highlights of the night in the last few weeks. The highlight of the tour was easily the party the kind folk at triple j threw at the Annandale Hotel in Sydney.  It was simply massive: 450 sweaty punters crammed into the room with about three times as many turned away, cracking DJ sets from triple j folks Dools, Dom, Nick and more and, of course, three most excellent bands all on the cusp of something even greater – Philadelphia Grand Jury, Washington and Hungry Kids of Hungary.

Check out the below videos for a chat with our own Hungry Kids Kane, Dean and Ben (Ryan was asleep in the tour van) backstage before their massive show at the Annandale Hotel in Sydney.  The night was incredible and surreal, to say the least, with a full house jumping around for three great bands.

Check out the video highlights of the Philly Jays and Washington – HERE and some excellent pics and a blog thanks to Dom Alessio – HERE.

Otherwise, enjoy the interview and live cut of ‘Scattered Diamonds’ from Hungry Kids of Hungary below.
