New video for Lisa Crawley’s ‘You Got Me’ examines the trappings of cult-like romance with leading man Jonny Brugh (What We Do In The Shadows, Power Rangers DinoThunder, 800 Words) in a spooky Twin Peaks/The Bold and The Beautiful crossover episode.
Directed by Nikki Castle and cinematography by Marden Dean (nominated for AACTA Award for Best Cinematography 2014) the video follows the charismatic yet detached Brugh and a lovelorn Crawley. On the concept, she explains “The cult theme is playing off the idea that in some romantic relationships you need as much strength to leave them as you would a cult.”
After spending most of 2017 focusing on writing and performing her very own cabaret Elizabeth, arranging music for Symphony Orchestras and global touring, 2018 sees Crawley shift her focus back to solo career. Recently nominated for a Silver Scroll Award in her native New Zealand, having the track added to ABC Local Radio rotation and recorded a live-to-vinyl session at Leesta Vall Sound Recordings in New York City.
Crawley has traversed the globe in a tireless effort to refine her songwriting skills, penning ‘You Got Me’ during a songwriting residency at Banff Center for Arts and Creativity and currently finds herself in Hawaii Songwriting Festival, where surely more dreamy, chamber pop tunes will be imagined.
