Following the successful release of debut single ‘No Rumour’, FICTION WRITER today gift an early Christmas treat with the announcement of debut EP One to Four (out this Friday December 22). Gleaming with climactic drum belts, scratchy guitar riffs, breathy vocal yelps and oh so heavy bass lines, One to Four oozes razor sharp coolness.

One to Four sees lead singer/songwriter and guitarist Gideon Bensen take a huge leap of faith, experimenting with his own reincarnation as an artist and delving into the deep unknown with themes of love lost, time and seclusion. Bringing in new band mates Nicholas Meredith (drums) and Brendan Clark (bass) to the fold to FICTION WRITER has enveloped more than a passion project in 2017. Produced by Bensen alongside Wade Keighran (The Scare, Wolf & Cub), Dave Hammer (Washington/Thundamentals) and mixed by Chris Collins (Middle Kids/Gang of Youths), One To Four‘s fresh team stakes a new direction. Touching on vulnerability, highlighting questions of existence and constantly surging towards new forms of inspiration, One to Four is a masterpiece reflective of FICTION WRITER’s undeniable talent and notable exploration of identity.

Electric first cut ‘No Rumour‘ and impressive accompanying video featuring dancers from The Australian Ballet premiered on UK’s CLASH Magazine and on air with triple j’s Richard Kingsmill. This fiery sucker punch about rekindling a dying love was quickly added to Spotify’s ‘Rock Out’ playlist, with triple j, Rolling Stone Australia and online tastemakers CLASH (UK) who called it ‘the start of something big’. Track two, ‘In Too Deep‘ propels FICTION WRITER into the world of quintessential rock – a warpy belter switching up tempos to personify Bensen’s wayward mind and thought process. Completing the count, three and four (‘Desire’ & ‘Ain’t the love that I need’) are beacons of light in a time of withering musical inspiration for Bensen, eclipsing his uncertainty about music’s ability to ‘repair the soul’.

With new music already in the works, FICTION WRITER are prepping their very own choose your own adventure novel. Turning the pages into 2018, their thrilling live show will debut early in the New Year.

PRAISE FOR FICTION WRITER

“FICTION WRITER’s crisp, fuzz-fuelled return is the start of something big”!
CLASH (UK)

“Debut single, ‘No Rumour’, has some of the glam rock stylings of Bensen’s Cold Cold Heart work but wraps them in a nastier package, all angular guitars and sneering vocal stabs.”
Al Newstead – triple j

“Fiction Writer’s clearly now settled on his own two feet and ready to smash it out solo with dance-rock belters like this one.”
Wild n Free

“One of this year’s most hyped artists …infusing rock with pulsing electronic beats, he has created an exciting new sound that harks back to the 80’s industrial movement”.
Rolling Stone

“this is such an exciting record. YOU’VE DONE WELL GIDEON!”.
