A Distant Call is arguably the best reminder that no matter how far we roam, home is always there. Separately traversing the Northern Hemisphere, both Lisa Mitchell and Dustin Tebbutt have been selling out their own album tour shows here and in Europe and the pair will now travel around Australia together for the Distant Call Tour this June/July.
For Dustin, the idea came about while he was on tour in Europe.
“Lisa and I have know each other for a few years, and we’d started looking at doing a tour together. I was in Amsterdam doing some shows and happened to be talking through it all with my keys player who also plays for Lisa. I think at one point we were joking that they could just stay on stage for both of our sets, and then the Idea to share a band started making more sense. It kind of grew from there. What we’re looking at now is a really collaborative show, where we share the stage, songs, and musicians; weaving our songs together. I’ll be playing some of Lisa’s music with her and she’ll be adding her magic to some of my songs. I think its going to be a really special run of shows.”
Lisa Mitchell’s LP Warriors landed her in the top ten of the ARIA album charts in 2016 and is released worldwide on Friday April 14. Recently selling out her London album tour show, Lisa is in the midst of a European tour and is excited to return home for the Distant Call Tour.
“I’m so looking forward to these shows with Dustin!” says Lisa. “I’ve never done anything like this. It already feels like the show is going to be something totally different! I’ve been a fan of Dustin’s music for a long time. We seem to inhabit the edges of a similar world, both musically and in our visual worlds. When Dustin and I were brainstorming the name of the tour, I suggested, ‘New Phone, Who Dis?’ Don’t know why he didn’t go for it (laughs).”
Continuing to push the creative bounds of her work, Lisa Mitchell also features on Super Cruel’s debut track ‘November’ – this first taste of the debut duo-project from Porsches and Tigerilla was instantly embraced by triple j.
Dustin and Lisa will be joined by Alex the Astronaut on all shows for her first ever national tour of Australia. Currently one of the country’s most exciting new acts, Alex the Astronaut’s debut EP To Whom It May Concern was released on Friday and features much loved triple j songs ‘Already Home’ and ‘Rockstar City’.
