Pear & The Awkward Orchestra Release Debut Album Smocks!
July 8th, 2011 | By
With two EPs already done and dusted (Russian Doll 2007, Something Will Come 2009) it was time for Pear to step into long player territory. Smocks! Pear & The Awkward Orchestra’s debut album is quirky, emotive and surprising.
First single ‘Oh Katrina’ was quietly released in February 2011, garnering solid radio coverage through community radio and triple j. Whilst the delightful poppy sounds of ‘Oh Katrina’ slowly simmered in the radio world, the final touches were being put on the album. Second single and lead track ‘Bigger than You’ is skewed with a slight punk/indie vibe, a nice comparison to single number one. With diverse instrumentation and sparse arrangements combined with a powerful voice, Pear & The Awkward Orchestra’s Smocks! is a memorable musical offering and will continue to orchestrate the grassroots rise of this unique band.
Smocks! will be on show this July as Pear & The Awkward Orchestra travel south for shows in Sydney and Melbourne along with a very special secret show in Brisbane. Following this, front woman Steph Lees, will be making her maiden musical voyage overseas for shows in Canada and the US.
