SPRING SKIER’S DEBUT SINGLE

June 8th, 2011 | By

Having just wrapped up the final tour for their debut album, Hungry Kids of Hungary members Kane Mazlin and Remy Boccalatte are releasing the first single, ‘Chelsea’ from their side project Spring Skier.

The concept for Spring Skier arose while guitarist Remy Boccalatte and keyboardist Kane Mazlin had too many drinks one new years eve and found themselves singing late 90′s punk music at the top of their lungs. Having commenced some 18 months ago, it was sometime after that Remy was to become the fifth member of Hungry Kids of Hungary. They had been aware and respectful of each others’ musical projects; Remy with the post hardcore band The Paper and the Plane, and Kane with the indie Hungry Kids of Hungary. After talking at ends and sharing ideas, they found that they both had a selection of songs that did not seem to fit either of their outlets, and so began the first sessions of Spring Skier.

Bringing songs from two different writers never had such an easy transition or adaption, with chords being added so subtly placed and harmonies that seamlessly ran into one another. The duo’s first batch of writing is solidly rooted in acoustic folk, reminiscent of Simon and Garfunkle, or as they have been described ‘dream folk’, with harmonies inspired by the Beach Boys; however, the pair draw from influences both new and old, and are eager to start exploring their way through arrangements and instruments to challenge the idea of pop while staying integral and passionate along the way.

‘Chelsea’ is the first taste from a near-completed album due for release later this year.
