The Launch…
In their year-long existence, nothing has held Ball Park Music back – they’ve sneakily paved their way onto the local music scene by playing many a show in the last six months and have now emerged with their curiously titled album, ‘Rolling on the floor, Laughing ourselves to sleep’. The album will be available for the first time at a special performance for its launch at The Troubadour on Thursday, April 30.
The Album…
As intriging as its title, ‘Rolling on the floor, Laughing ourselves to sleep’ covers themes of love and the chaos of society with songs such as ‘All I Want Is You’ and ‘Culture Vultures in the Year 2008‘, while still finding time to shift gears considerably with a gospel-blues styled observation, titled ’21st Century Hymn’ and the striking, narrative styled tale of ’10 Million People’.
The album shows no signs of being penned by 19 year old frontman, Samuel Cromack while being delievered by a band whose average is 20. Stylistically providing swooshes of pop, rock, soul and blues, the band are set to take their musical charm to the next level.
The History…
In 2006, Ball Park Music began to crawl as an uneventful solo adventure for singer/songwriter Samuel Cromack.
In the eighth year of the Naughties, equipped with a little collection of songs, his adventure took him to Brisbane. At a serendipitous pool-party he encountered Daniel Hanson, Dean Hanson, Paul Furness, Brock Smith and Jennifer Boyce: five of the most talented and delightful musicians…EVER!
Baking with their unique pop recipe full of sliding trombones and heart-breaking folk, jangly guitars and honky-tonk piano, sad songs about Translink, and happy songs about rotten storms, Ball Park Music has been gigging flat-chat around Brisbane’s favourite venues and gathering a little following, one person at a time.
The band bunkered down in October and November 2008 to put their first batch of songs to disc. Their promising debut release ‘Rolling on the floor, Laughing ourselves to sleep’ is an 8-track adventure of pure joy, love, woe, curiosity and fun mashed into a ball of catchy Brispop.
Ball Park Music is looking forward to an exciting 2009, and is hoping to see more of your smiling faces at each and every gig. Get in on the fun, and tag along as the five gents and one lass continue to offer their cure for the universal pop virus.
Be at The Troubadour of Thursday, April 30 to see the next chapter un-fold.
