HUNGRY KIDS PRESENTS:SCATTERED DIAMONDS – THE VIDEO

HUNGRY KIDS PRESENTS:
SCATTERED DIAMONDS – THE VIDEO

After eight weeks of solid rotation on national yoof broadcaster triple j, Hungry Kids of Hungary’s latest single ‘Scattered Diamonds’ is about to experience a new lease of life.

Not only will the song be featured as iTunes’ Single of The Week starting May 5 but it also now has an official music video shot by first time creators Brodie Rocca (director) and Bec Parkinson (producer). The clip was shot over two days on the Gold Coast and features the Hungry Kids themselves along with an impressive and cheeky cast of intricately crafted sock monkeys created by local lass Cassandra Urquhart.

In other monkey business, the Hungry Kids have recently packed away the road cases after completing dates with new besties Philadelphia Grand Jury and Washington as part of the International Relations Tour, a jaunt that saw them cruising the east coast playing to sold out audiences in Melbourne, Brisbane and Sydney. Culminating at the Annandale Hotel in Sydney, the show was filmed by JTV and recorded by triple j for future broadcast – tune into highlights from the show on JTV Monday 4th, 11th and 18th May at 9pm.

In the meantime, the harmonic quartet have a small handful of gigs to prepare for before their next bout of interstate travel.

World release of Late At Night through MGM and SugarRush, May 8 2009

Brisbane avant-garde battle-cat Edward Guglielmino has been working his threadbare muso pants off in recent months, self distributing releases to one fan at a time, clashing with corporate giants over logo designs, and squeezing every last beer from riders all over Australia.

With the hard yards notched up, phase two of Ed G’s plan for world domination kicks in on May 8th, with a world release of his latest offering, Late At Night. Released physically in Australia through MGM, with worldwide downloads available via SugarRush, Ed’s unique brand of jangly abstract-rock will be given a chance to win over the masses, after capturing a sizeable online audience including an über-contingent of Germans.

Described as a ‘triumphant debut album’ by critics, Late At Night drags the listener along on a ragged journey which is at once raw with sentiment yet defiantly cohesive. Lead single ‘Rhythm Of Life’ brings a steady backbeat to a release laden with late night overtones, conjuring the image of a wine glass strewn keyboard in the wee hours providing company for Ed’s crooning. ‘Lion In Your Bed’ provides an anguished ultimatum between wallowing in a guitar riff tuned to heartbreak or indulging in humorous word play imagery. And although self-depreciating ode to dysfunction ‘Fail With Me’ may forebode future failure, fail is something Edward Guglielmino is simply not programmed to do.

Stay up Late At Night with Edward Guglielmino from May 8th; the part of every music fan that empathises with the struggling-artist-gets-a-break concept demands it.

Late At Night Album Reviews:

‘Late At Night is a progressive, often noirish album with a palpable intellectual edge and will go down a treat with anyone who eschews the radio waves in search of true art.”
(4 Stars) Justin Grey – Time Off Magazine

‘There’s no doubting the professionalism Guglielmino has brought to the table with Late At Night – even if you’ve never heard of him, upon hearing the album, you’ll probably wonder why you haven’t.”
Adam Dodd – Tom Magazine

‘Edward Guglielmino has crafted a cohesive, intimate and gorgeously obscure masterpiece, merely for the fact that whether he recorded a vocal take in a hotel room or in the early hours of a subway in Rome, he has remained authentic as an artist and a true visionary.”
Jonathan B – Faster Louder

‘Guerrilla gigs, snarky emails and generally doing whatever he wants onstage, this type of action is only excusable if the music is good enough. Upon listening to Mr G’s diffuse and caustic new album, I now give him permission to unleash his inner eccentric.’
Mitch Alexander – Rave Magazine

<Late At Night’s appearance in-store coincides with a spate of live dates around the nation>

TIMOTHY CARROLLMELBOURNE SHOWS

April 28th, 2009 | By ben

www.myspace.com/timothycarrollband

Finally Melbourne music lovers will get a chance to experience what Brisbane audiences have been selfishly treated to for some time when Brisbane-based troubadour Timothy Carroll takes his live show south for the first time.

2008 saw Carroll establish his place in Brisbane’s live music scene with an ambitious residency in West End which saw crowds piling into an already pack venue or peaking in a window to catch a show that flipped between intimate folk stories to clarinet and cello-soaked blues symphonies.

And while it may seem as though he’s been a little quiet since then, he has found the time to support iconic Australian acts such as Darren Hanlon, Ben Salter, Sime Nugent and Texas Tea as well as completing recording of his debut album.

Produced by Jamie Trevaskis (Texas Tea, Nathan Hollywood, Tom Cooney) at Junkship Studios, the album – entitled For Bread And Circuses – is a masterpiece in songwriting that will finally expose Carroll as one of our best kept secrets. The album, due for release later in the year, includes a vast array of guests that includes Corrina Scanlon, Laura Driver, Kate Jacobson (Texas Tea), Bec Craner and Will Eager (Doch Gypsy Orchestra), Oscar Dawson (Dukes of Windsor and Andy Donald (Kafka).

Melbourne audiences will not only be treated to the lush, stripped back Carroll-sound but also Adrian Stoyles of the Gin Club will play a rare solo show and Melbourne local Lindsay Philips will close the night with his impeccable bag of dark country tricks.

UPCOMING SHOWS:

Saturday, May 2 | Varietyville | Melbourne (VIC)

Tuesday, May 5 | The Old Bar | Fitzroy, Melbourne (VIC)

The Launch…

In their year-long existence, nothing has held Ball Park Music back – they’ve sneakily paved their way onto the local music scene by playing many a show in the last six months and have now emerged with their curiously titled album, Rolling on the floor, Laughing ourselves to sleep’. The album will be available for the first time at a special performance for its launch at The Troubadour on Thursday, April 30.

The Album…

As intriging as its title, ‘Rolling on the floor, Laughing ourselves to sleep’ covers themes of love and the chaos of society with songs such as ‘All I Want Is You’ and ‘Culture Vultures in the Year 2008, while still finding time to shift gears considerably with a gospel-blues styled observation, titled ’21st Century Hymn’ and the striking, narrative styled tale of ’10 Million People’.

The album shows no signs of being penned by 19 year old frontman, Samuel Cromack while being delievered by a band whose average is 20. Stylistically providing swooshes of pop, rock, soul and blues, the band are set to take their musical charm to the next level.

The History…

In 2006, Ball Park Music began to crawl as an uneventful solo adventure for singer/songwriter Samuel Cromack.

In the eighth year of the Naughties, equipped with a little collection of songs, his adventure took him to Brisbane. At a serendipitous pool-party he encountered Daniel Hanson, Dean Hanson, Paul Furness, Brock Smith and Jennifer Boyce: five of the most talented and delightful musicians…EVER!

Baking with their unique pop recipe full of sliding trombones and heart-breaking folk, jangly guitars and honky-tonk piano, sad songs about Translink, and happy songs about rotten storms, Ball Park Music has been gigging flat-chat around Brisbane’s favourite venues and gathering a little following, one person at a time.

The band bunkered down in October and November 2008 to put their first batch of songs to disc. Their promising debut release ‘Rolling on the floor, Laughing ourselves to sleep’ is an 8-track adventure of pure joy, love, woe, curiosity and fun mashed into a ball of catchy Brispop.

Ball Park Music is looking forward to an exciting 2009, and is hoping to see more of your smiling faces at each and every gig. Get in on the fun, and tag along as the five gents and one lass continue to offer their cure for the universal pop virus.

Be at The Troubadour of Thursday, April 30 to see the next chapter un-fold.

What some have said so far…

‘Ball Park Music sound like a band who have been making music for years, Sam makes a confident and charismatic frontman and backed by his army of 5 talented musicians this is a band who will be difficult To ignore in 2009.’ Faster Louder, Live review, March 2009

‘Wonderfully accomplished stuff. Flat out great pop!’ Steph Hughes, triple j Music Team

Spilt Milk Goes Digital Worldwide

Spilt Milk Goes Digital Worldwide

www.myspace.com/tarasimmonsmusic
www.tarasimmons.com

After much anticipation from long-awaiting music lovers, Tara Simmons unleashed her debut album Spilt Milk to a reception of glowing reviews, industry kudos and a good old-fashioned back pats. Following the launch to a sold out crowd in her hometown of Brisbane, Spilt Milk has now been made available worldwide with a digital launch via SugarRush Records.

The album, described as ‘intricate yet organic’, once again features Tara’s trademark mix of heartfelt folk and sample based electronica, though explores both elements to their independent extremes this time around.

Highlighted from the outset in the crescendo building opener ‘We Are’, it is evident that each note of Spilt Milk has been crafted to form exactly what was envisioned. No time or superflous instrumentation is wasted in letting Tara’s pop intuition roam with the boppy radio favourite ‘When You Say That I Don’t Care About You‘, the fragmented ‘Everything But The Kitchen Sink’ and the whimsical ‘Long After The Boy. With only Rhodes as accompaniment on the beautifully fragile ‘Meet In The Middle‘, experimental closing track ‘The Worst Of It‘ provides a sweet contradition as dozens of Tara’s are heard to blend endless layers of vocal samples together.

Ambitious in nature and always eyeing the next challenge, Tara Simmons is already in the planning stages for her next recorded outing, and will continue to keep everyone watching.
